The Parc Naturel du Luberon is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty in southern Provence. Bounded to the north by the Vaucluse plateau and to the south by the Grand and Petit Luberon mountains the Luberon valley is a picturesque landscape of vineyards, orchards and lavender fields enhanced by the famous hilltop villages of Gordes, Roussillon and Menerbes to name but a few.
The Maison du Maitre is located on the edge of Les Taillades a village situated towards the western end of the Luberon valley about 15 minutes drive from the town of Cavaillon. There are local restaurants and shops nearby, tennis courts within 10km, riding within 1km, and golf within 12 km. Good Cotes de Ventoux and Cotes du Luberon wine can be bought at any of the local Caves Co-operatives and private Domaines and there are many good restaurants in the area.
Further afield, the attractions of Avignon, Aix, St. Remy, Nimes, Orange and Arles are all within easy exploring distance with the beaches of the Camargue accessible within around 2 hours. The nearest airport is Marseille - approximately one hours drive from Les Taillades.
The house is located on the outskirts of the village in private grounds. The property is part of an old provencal mas which has been lovingly restored and developed into two comfortable houses which are completely separate and private from one another. The Maison du Maitre is the old farmhouse itself and is the largest and most luxurious of the two properties.
The two storey stone house is decorated in provencal style with terracotta floors throughout and exposed beams giving a warm welcome. The house is very well equipped with all modern conveniences including ADSL (broadband) internet connection. There are 4 good size bedrooms - 2 master twin bedrooms, each ensuite with bath, shower, double sink and toilet and 2 double bedrooms both ensuite with shower and sink. Additional sleeping accommodation for a further two people can be arranged on request using the mezzanine area of the two master bedrooms.
Downstairs the large living room is beautifully furnished and has satellite TV. The large kitchen room is exceptionally well equipped including an American fridge and of course the usual modern conveniences such as dishwasher etc. The kitchen has a large convivial dining table. There is a separate laundry room. The house is south facing and there are three outdoor terraces and independent parking.
Bed linen and towels are provided and cleaning is included. The owner of Domaine des Bartavelles also offers a chef and babysitting service by prior arrangement.
The house is within a large garden of 4 acres which is completely private. There are plenty of pleasant sitting out areas and chairs and tables are provided for eating out. The 6 x 12m swimming pool is shared by the two houses and is surrounded by a landscaped area with lots of sunbathing space and loungers. In our experience swimming in April is only for the very hardy and the pool is open from 1 May to 30 September.
La Maison de Maitre can be rented individually or together with La Bastide next door for larger parties of up to 16 people.
We ask for half the rent at the time of booking and the balance six weeks before the start of your holiday. If booking is within 6 weeks of arrival we require full payment at the time of booking. A returnable damages deposit of £500 is also payable at time of final payment. This is refunded after your departure once the house has been checked. All telephone charges, breakage's, etc. will be made against the deposit and the balance returned to you.Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. In order to clean and check the house we ask guests to arrive between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and to leave at 9.00 a.m. on the day of departure.
In case of cancellation, the reservation deposit will be retained unless we can re-let or the whole payment if six weeks or less before the start of your intended stay. If we can re-let our additional expenditure, including advertising, will be deducted and the rest returned to you. We would therefore strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance which covers cancellation. This is widely available, for example from airlines, ferry companies, and the AA.
