Nestled in the Luberon countryside, the Mas des Chenes is a beautiful 18th century mas (French farmhouse) situated near the lovely old village of Lacoste and a short distance from the charming village of Menerbes in the Parc Naturel du Luberon area of Provence. The village of Lacoste, 1km away has cafes and restaurants and beautiful views across the valley. Nearby Menerbes just 5km from the house has a wider choice of shops and restaurants, a boulangerie and a small weekly market.

A delightful holiday retreat to just be "at home", the Mas des Chenes is also perfectly located for exploring the lovely Luberon valley with its pretty perched villages or for venturing further afar for visits to Avignon, Aix en Provence, St. Remy and Arles. There are some excellent local vignerons producing Cotes de Ventoux and Cotes du Luberon wines, buzzing village markets and lovely countryside strolls on your doorstep.

The House

The beautifully restored Mas des Chenes is a two story stone built house constructed around an interior paved courtyard enhanced by beautiful old olive trees at the centre. In large grounds of a grassy park, pines, oaks and olive trees overlooking the countryside the house is located on a quiet country lane and has lots of private off street parking with gates for extra security.

A perfect combination of restored old features and new modern comforts, the house provides very comfortable accommodation and has the clear signature of it's owner, a succsessful interior designer. The kitchen is very well equipped for the cook with a fridge freezer, fridge, dishwasher, Nespresso and filter coffee makers, large range cooker with gas hob and electric oven & dishwasher. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the separate utility room. The large light and airy salon/dining room with its floor to ceiling windows overlooking the courtyard is a lovely space. There are big sofas and chairs for relaxing and a large dining table easily seating 10 people. A small hall leads off the salon out to the rear garden and pool.

The house has satellite TV, Apple TV, DVD player and hifi for entertainment and a broadband wifi internet connection.

There are 5 bedrooms, each beautifully decorated and each with an en suite bathroom or shower room. There is a large double bedroom on the ground floor with en suite bathroom, wc and large dressing room, two bedrooms upstairs (one double, one twin), each with an en suite shower room and a separate wc. Located across the courtyard and accessed by exterior steps, a large master suite has the feeling of a private apartment with its very well equipped bedroom, bathroom, wc and dressing room. The fifth bedroom is located also via an outside staircase and is a small charming retreat separate from the main house, also with its own shower room and wc.

The large heated swimming pool is south facing and overlooks the fields and hills of the Luberon at the rear of the house. There is plenty of relaxing space around the pool and pool loungers are provided. There is a gas bbq for guests use and the large shaded pergola is perfect for lunch or dinner overlooking the spacious garden and its surrounding oak woods and pine trees. The comfortable outdoor garden room with sofas is also a delightful place to relax. The pool is heated from May to October and has an alarm system in place for security.

Bed linen and towels are provided together with towels for the pool. There is a cleaning service three times a week and at the end of your stay. Babysitting and cooking services can be arranged with the housekeeper.

Please note this house is not suitable for young children under 5. Pets are not allowed.

The Mas des Chenes is a very special property. A lovely private house in a peaceful countryside location with plenty of exceptionally comfortable living space for large family parties or a group of friends and ideally located for exploring the Luberon area and beyond.

Rental Cost

The rent includes all services including heating during the winter months. A cleaning service is provided three times a week and also for the end of your stay and a change of bed linen is organised once a week.

The house can be rented with either four or five bedrooms.

Booking Conditions

We ask for half the rent at the time of booking and the balance six weeks before the start of your holiday. If booking is within 6 weeks of arrival we require full payment at the time of booking. A returnable damages deposit of £2,000 is also payable at time of final payment. This is refunded after your departure once the house has been checked. All telephone charges, breakage's, etc. will be made against the deposit and the balance returned to you. Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. In order to have time to check the house, change beds, clean the pool and tidy the garden etc. we ask guests to arrive between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and to leave at 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure.

In case of cancellation, the reservation deposit will be retained unless we can re-let or the whole payment if six weeks or less before the start of your intended stay. If we can re-let our additional expenditure, including advertising, will be deducted and the rest returned to you. We would therefore strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance which covers cancellation. This is widely available, for example from airlines, ferry companies, and the AA.
